Books

The list

Every title is free to read and download in full from the day of publication, without accounts, institutional access or preview limits.

Titles will be listed here as they are published.

Browsing

The list can be filtered by:

  • Subject: humanities; social sciences; law; medicine, health and the life sciences, and the sub-fields within each
  • Series
  • Publication date
  • Licence: for readers who need to know what they may reuse before they start
  • Language, including translations

What Is on Each Book's Page

  • A full description and the table of contents, with each chapter separately linked and separately citable by its own DOI.
  • The complete text readable in the browser, plus PDF and EPUB downloads.
  • Author details and ORCID iDs.
  • The licence, stated plainly, with what it permits.
  • Funder acknowledgement and grant identifiers.
  • ISBNs for each format, alongside the DOIs. Every book carries its own.
  • A citation, formatted, ready to copy, with the DOI.
  • Peer review statement: how the book was reviewed and by how many reviewers.
  • Usage figures, published openly.
  • Any corrections or post-publication notices, linked both ways.

Formats

FormatNotes
HTMLRead in any browser, no download. Chapter-level pages, each with its own DOI and stable URL.
PDFTagged and structured for accessibility. The format of record for citation and for printing.
EPUB 3Reflowable, screen-reader tested, navigable by heading structure. For phones and e-readers.
Print (hardcover or paperback)Print on demand, at cost-plus. Ordering one is welcome and entirely optional.

Citing Our Books

Cite the DOI rather than the URL. Every book and every chapter has one, and it will continue to resolve wherever the book is hosted. A formatted citation is on each book's page.

Reusing Them

Under our default CC BY 4.0 licence you may redistribute, adapt, translate, mine and build on any of it, including commercially, with attribution. You do not need to ask us. Setting a chapter as course reading needs no licence and costs your students nothing.

Keeping Up

Announcements of new titles, by subject area, are available on request from queries@bassi.foundation.

Librarians: free MARC records and KBART files for the whole list, and our metadata arrives through DOAB and OAPEN if you already load open-access books from either.
