Peer Reviewer Confidentiality

Reviewer identities are held confidentially and are not disclosed to authors, before or after publication, unless the reviewer asks to be named. We retain the record of who reviewed what indefinitely, because research-integrity questions can arise years later and we need to be able to answer them. That record is not published and is disclosed only where we are legally required to do so.

Who We Share Data With

  • Crossref, for DOI registration: this includes author names, ORCID iDs, affiliations, and funder and grant identifiers, and it is published metadata by design.
  • DOAB and OAPEN, and other repositories where a funder requires deposit, which receive the same published metadata.
  • Our production suppliers (copy-editors, typesetters, indexers, printers), under contract, and only the data they need.
  • Payment and accounting providers, for invoicing and honoraria.
  • Nobody else. We do not sell personal data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not pass author or reviewer details to third parties for their own marketing.

International Transfers

Some of our suppliers and repositories are outside Canada. Where personal data is transferred, we use contractual safeguards providing comparable protection, as Canadian law requires.

How Long We Keep Things

  • Published works and their metadata: permanently, as part of the scholarly record.
  • Declined proposals and their correspondence: 24 months, then deleted.
  • Reviewer records: indefinitely, for research-integrity purposes.
  • Financial records: seven years, as required by law.
  • Announcement-list subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, which you may do from any message.

Your Rights

Under applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent where processing rests on consent, and ask how your data has been used and to whom it has been disclosed. Write to queries@bassi.foundation and we will respond within one month.

Two limits apply. We cannot delete a name from a book we have published. It is a permanent part of the scholarly record, and the licence is irrevocable. Nor can we delete reviewer records where doing so would prevent us from answering a future integrity question.

Cookies

We use only what is necessary to make the site work, plus aggregate analytics to understand what is being read. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Where consent is required, we ask for it, and declining costs you nothing; the site works either way.
